UAE's Clean Energy Ambitions

The country is undergoing a profound transformation of its energy landscape.

  • The UAE is transforming its energy landscape, aiming for net-zero emissions, a 50% clean power mix, and a 70% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050.
  • The UAE has 25 energy projects worth USD 28.2bn in the pipeline, which will add 21,714 MW of generation capacity, a 38% increase from the current capacity.
  • Solar power leads with 14 projects valued at USD 16.7bn, and solar energy capacity is expected to grow 126% from 9,606 MW in 2025 to 21,670 MW in 2030.
  • The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant supplies 25% of the UAE's electricity, while waste-to-energy projects like the Dubai Centre for Waste Processing contribute to clean energy and attract foreign investment.
  • The UAE is investing in wind and hydropower projects, including the Hatta Pumped Storage Plant and the UAE Wind Program, to diversify its clean energy sources and support its decarbonization efforts.
